Long time no peep, huh!
Two weeks ago I replaced the DVD drive lens on a Wii. The Wii was given to me by a friend a while back for me to experiment with. Thank you very much!
Problem:
The Wii boots up fine and plays games installed locally, but will not accept discs. Inserting a disc would cause the system to make loud crunching noises and ask the player to restart the Wii. This will be bad in the long run because Nintendo is shutting down the Wii Shop in 2019 . So, I thought it would be a good idea to get this Wii fixed up.
Repair:
I followed this guide for disassembly:
Nintendo Wii DVD Drive Lens Replacement
While the outside of the case looks very sleek, in reality it has a lot of screws!
They hide behind some of the Wii's feet, which are in the background.

This is the old lens:
I thought the white plastic was part of the issue with the crunching sound, since it looks a little worn. Though, after transferring the plastic piece to the new lens, it was no longer an issue.
Here is the new lens:
Installed! I know it looks similar to one of the pictures above, but the black tape above the ribbon cable is gone.
Tada! Worked!
That was a simple fix! Now to find my copy of "WarioWare: Smooth Moves" 😂
Thank you for following!
